I really wanted to catch this colorful male flying today... but they were not cooperating. He was a new one, I've never seen him at my feeder before but he brought with him a whole group of others with him.

This adolescent male was my favorite of the day today. I loved the markings. On the Internet, I found out that he will have a full red throat by next summer, how exciting!

I used flash, at a friend's suggestion, to try to capture the colors in the feathers. There was only one rubythroat, but I got him. Flash even helped me freeze action. I read that hummingbirds don't flap their wings but rather move them in a big circle. It looks like that might be true.

We found this turtle on the side of the road today, he was getting ready to cross a busy highway. We shooed him back to the ditch. But upon closer inspection noticed he was missing his right front foot, and his shell has been cracked and scuffed like maybe he's been in a highway accident before. Love and Luck

I don't smoke... or especially like smoking but I do love the idea of how the curling smoke looks in a portrait. So if I can find someone who smokes anyway I'm going to try to take a couple pics if they agree. I hope I'm not exploiting a bad habit. I don't suppose my little picture is any worse than the cigarette companies already do.
